What is hivemind?
hivemind is an anonymous, hyperlocal community app. You see and post to people inside a radius you choose (1 to 50 km), sharing text, photos, video, GIFs, memes, polls, and questions — without profiles, followers, or real names. It's free, live on iOS, and in closed beta on Android.
Is hivemind anonymous?
Yes. There are no profiles, no followers, and no real names shown to other users — your posts are anonymous to everyone nearby. To keep that anonymity safe, posting requires a one-time identity verification, but your identity is encrypted and never shown to other users.
Is hivemind free?
Yes, hivemind is free to download and use.
What platforms is hivemind on?
hivemind is available now on iOS (iPhone). Android is in closed beta — you can request access at gethivemind.net/android.
How does hivemind work?
You set a radius — 1, 5, 10, 25, or 50 km — and see posts from people within it. You can post text, photos, video, GIFs, memes, polls, and "asks" (questions that stay open for a set time and close with a pinned best answer). Browsing is open to everyone; posting requires a one-time identity verification.
Is hivemind safe? How is it moderated?
hivemind is built so anonymity doesn't become abuse. It's 18+, posting requires private identity verification, and content is actively moderated with both automated systems and human review. Images are scanned with NCMEC/PhotoDNA technology, and there's a zero-tolerance child-safety policy.
Does hivemind track or share my location?
Your location is used only to show you nearby posts and is never shared with other users. Posts aren't pinned to your exact spot, and image metadata is stripped on upload so photos can't reveal where you are.
How is hivemind different from Yik Yak or Nextdoor?
Like Yik Yak, hivemind is anonymous and local — but hivemind is open to your whole community rather than centred on US college campuses, and it supports photos, video, memes, polls and asks instead of short text only. Unlike Nextdoor, hivemind doesn't use real names or your home address, so you stay anonymous to your neighbours. See hivemind vs Yik Yak and hivemind vs Nextdoor.
What can I post on hivemind?
You can post text, photos, video, GIFs, memes (with a built-in meme creator), polls, and "asks" — questions that stay open and close with a pinned best answer. Everything appears in one local feed.
What are whispers, memories, and local trust?
Whispers are private replies visible only to you and the poster. Memories are a private archive of every post and comment you make, visible only to you. Local trust uses a geospatial hex grid to signal who is genuinely local, while keeping identities anonymous to neighbours.
Do I have to verify my identity to use hivemind?
You can browse without verifying. To post, you complete a one-time identity verification through a third-party service. Your verification data is encrypted and never shown to other users — it exists to keep the community safe, not to identify you publicly.
What is the minimum age for hivemind?
hivemind is for users 18 and older.
Where is hivemind available?
hivemind is rolling out market-by-market, starting with Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Because it's hyperlocal, it focuses on building real activity in one area at a time. The iOS app can be downloaded anywhere; the feed is most active in current launch markets.
How do I join the Android beta?
Go to gethivemind.net/android and submit the Google account email you use on the Play Store. Once we add you to the testers list, you can opt in and install from Google Play.
How do I delete my hivemind account?
You can request account deletion at gethivemind.net/delete-account, which explains exactly what is removed and what may be retained.
